Women’s Sport Cocktail Party
To our loyal cricket supporters and partners,
It is a well-known fact that women’s sport is funded at a lower level than men’s, yet we also know that the athleticism, commitment and passion is no different between genders or codes for that matter.
Across the region our not-for-profit organisations work hard to provide the best opportunities for our girls and young women to be active and healthy, to learn the important mental and emotional skills that come from being part of a team to feel that exhilarating feeling that comes from achieving your goals. Without the participation and interest of girls and young women in sport – not just as players but also as coaches, umpires, administrators and hopefully one day, as proud supportive parents, our shining stars and semi-professional teams would not exist. All our amazing women athletes started off as young girls with a passion for their sport which was nurtured and developed through the love and support they received from a number of places. They have all fought incredibly hard to balance work, a career and family life to get to the top level of their chosen sport as well as dealing with the financial constraints that they face.
For a number of complex social reasons, our ability to run our organisations, as a profitable (or break even business), to attract large cash sponsorship deals and new fans to our games is becoming difficult – and in the long run, it will be our girls and young women that miss out. So in response, Canterbury Cricket Association, along with Netball Mainland and the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, have teamed up to run a fabulous event to highlight the value of women’s sport and women athletes in our region.
We are holding a cocktail party to celebrate this and raise money for women’s sport and we’d love you all to attend! Come along for a great night of entertainment, speakers and live and silent auctions.
