The Female Career Podcast – Maia Lewis
Cricketing legend Maia Lewis recently shared her varied and inspiring career journey with Canterbury Cricket Board Director Anna Johnstone as part of The Female Career podcast.
Maia represented New Zealand in both indoor and outdoor cricket playing 78 one-day internationals and 9 Tests for the WHITE FERNS. She also proudly represented Canterbury, North Harbour and Wellington between 1987 – 2006. Alongside being an elite athlete, Maia’s also been a PE teacher, cricket coach, disability sports advisor, and sport relationship manager.
“Playing sport is a great leveler and it gets people active and moving. If you’re on a team you’re accountable for your actions and it’s not just relying on yourself for success. It’s relying on everyone else around you and having a common goal. Sport also builds skills around relationships and communication. It’s life skills – that’s what sport builds.”
