Leo Carter bids farewell to Canterbury Cricket after decade of success
Leo Carter has announced his departure from Canterbury Cricket, marking the end of a decade-long tenure with the team. Carter, who has been a vital cog in the batting lineup, leaves behind a list of impressive achievements and unforgettable moments.
Carter’s journey with Canterbury Cricket began in 2014 when he made his debut in the Plunket Shield and over the years evolved into one of the team’s most reliable and consistent performers. His elegant left-handed batting style and ability to anchor the innings made him a fan favourite and a key player for the team.
One of Carter’s most memorable performances came in January 2020, when he etched his name in the history books by hitting six sixes in an over during a Super Smash match against Northern Districts. This extraordinary feat showcased his power-hitting prowess and placed him among a select group of cricketers worldwide who have achieved this milestone.
Throughout his career with Canterbury, Carter accumulated over 4,923 runs in first-class cricket. His contributions were not limited to the longer format; he also excelled in white ball cricket, displaying versatility and adaptability across formats. Carter’s leadership qualities were also evident when he captained the team on several occasions, guiding us to crucial victories.
Carter’s impact extended beyond the pitch and his dedication to the game and his team made him a respected figure in the Canterbury cricketing community.
Reflecting on his time with Canterbury, Carter expressed gratitude for the opportunities and support he received. “Playing for Canterbury has been an incredible journey. I’ve had the privilege to represent this team, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together. The memories, the friendships, and the experiences will always hold a special place in my heart”.
As Carter embarks on the next chapter of his cricketing career, Canterbury Cricket extend their thanks and best wishes. Canterbury coach Peter Fulton had high praise for Carter “Leo has been an integral part of Canterbury Cricket for the past decade,” Fulton remarked. “His consistent performances, particularly in high-pressure situations, have been invaluable to our team’s success.”
From everyone at Canterbury Cricket we wish Leo and his fiancée Ye all the best for the future.
