Canterbury Cricket Association appoints new CEO
Canterbury Cricket Association (CCA) is excited to announce that Richard (Charlie) Brewer has been appointed as its new Chief Executive.
Brewer will be moving into the role after a successful tenure as Head of Cricket Operations at New Zealand Cricket, a position he has held while living within the Canterbury region since 2018.
Bringing with him an extensive background in leadership, operations and engagement, Brewer believes his experience in the cricket system, as well as his involvement with high-profile events like the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, the London 2012 Olympic Games and the 2011 Rugby World Cup, will prepare him well for what’s ahead.
“My connection to Canterbury runs deep. I studied and began my career here, and it was during that time that I developed a strong affinity for the region. After pursuing other professional opportunities, my wife and I returned 8 years ago to raise our children. I was particularly drawn to this role because it aligns with my commitment to making cricket Canterbury’s most accessible game.”
Brewer highlights that a key focus of his role will be the delivery of the ‘Strategy for Cricket in Canterbury’, which will require strengthening stakeholder relationships and prioritising transparent communication and collaboration.
“As someone who’s deeply passionate about cricket and invested in the future of the game, I’m committed to ensuring that at a regional level we’re aligned with the broader direction of our sport.”
CCA Board Chair Jono Brent says the role required someone with a deep passion for the game, as well as a proven track record of juggling multiple challenges, priorities and meeting the demands of the growing sport.
“As a board we were incredibly impressed by Charlie. While we received a wide range of national and international applicants, many of whom were strong contenders, Charlie stood out for his cricket knowledge, leadership experience and future focus. We are excited about Charlie taking the reins as the sport continues to thrive.”
Brewer will begin as the Chief Executive of CCA on 18 November.
